“This publication is a collection of personal and informal yet extraordinary moments between people of varying walks of life and Drugyal Zhipa”, says Rinzin Wangchuk who took the initiative to compile and write this tribute book in dedication to the 60th Birth Anniversary Celebration of His Majesty The Fourth Druk Gyalpo King Jigme Singye Wangchuck.
MOMENTS with the Fourth Druk Gyalpo captures more than 32 narratives with each one sharing how the moments with His Majesty has been awesome and inspiring leaving them awestruck, speechless at the moment yet relishing every second of the encounter with an extraordinary King as a life time experience.
The 67 year old Wangzo of Tashidhingkha, for instance, shares how His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo helped carry her fire woods to her home which is about 100 metres from the road and Yeshi Nidup from Druk PNB describes how His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo helped push his car to a start when his wife was nervous.
This publication will take the readers through why a 71 year old Aum Kinley Tshering from Paro still preserves her Kira as a souvenir, how Kaka from the Ministry of Education had repeated encounters with this extraordinary King on the slopes of Sangaygang, how Chuma Sangay Tshering of RBG and Rigzin Peldon got a second chance in life, how The King shared his concerns about the state of township at Bajothang, how a mother raced with her two children on a beautiful Sunday and many more inspiring stories.
As one reads through the book, one will realize that many of the encounters happened on the outskirt of Thimphu while His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalp took to his cycling and people took to their walk or on the way to some monasteries to offer their prayers. For many ordinary citizens meeting His Majesty by the road side and getting an opportunity to interact was in itself a blessing in disguise. For many people including me who have had the opportunity to meet His Majesty in person was a dream come true. All the things that we have heard and seen of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo actually came into light. People experienced firsthand the humility, simplicity, love, care and concern of the King.
This publication also includes inspiration stories by some of the senior citizens who have had the opportunity to either work directly with His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo or who have had an opportunity to serve him during his reign of 34 years.
The book is a tribute to commemorate the 60th Birth Anniversary of His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyal Zhipa and is commissioned by the Literary and Publication Sub-Committee of the 60th BCC.
The stories are short and reader friendly and very touching in nature. Once can read the book in about two to three readings.
